LCSB Aquatic Platform
The LCSB Aquatic Platform is centred around the use of zebrafish, a vertebrate model with high genetic and physiologic similarity to humans

Background
ZEBRAFISH: A MODEL SYSTEM FOR THE STUDY OF HUMAN DISEASE
This versatile, reliable model organism is widely used for the in vivo study of developmental biology, gene function, drug discovery and pathophysiological aspects of various human diseases such as epilepsy, rare diseases, neurodegenerative disorders, among others. With highly specialized research capabilities and innovative solutions, the University of Luxemburg is well-prepared to serve academic, as well as industrial partners, and to contribute to the development of their projects.
Technology Overview
The facility consists of a modern semi-automated installation equipped with cutting-edge technology, which allows us to generate genetic disease models (e.g. by CRISPR/Cas9 mutagenesis) and pharmacological models (e.g. by incubation with chemical compounds), as well as to design customized services depending on the user needs. The LCSB Aquatic Facility can house up to 30.000 adult zebrafish. By maintaining constant micro-environmental conditions, zebrafish are meticulously monitored in order to ensure excellent settings for research quality and animal welfare.
